In the middle of my grief…

Dear God,

Here I am, in the middle of my grief.

I don't always know what to say to You. Sometimes my heart is so heavy that words don't come. Sometimes all I can do is cry. And sometimes I sit quietly, wondering how life can continue moving when my heart feels like it has stopped.

Lord, I know You are still here.

Even when I don't understand why You allowed this loss, I choose to believe that You are still good.

You know the emptiness I feel. You know the memories that suddenly bring tears to my eyes. You know the moments when I wish I could hear that person's voice one more time, hold their hand one more time, or simply have one more ordinary day with them.

God, grief hurts because love was real.

And right now, I need You to carry what I cannot carry.

There are moments when I feel strong, and there are moments when I feel like I am barely holding myself together. When those moments come, remind me that I don't have to be strong on my own.

Be my strength.

When I cry, let me cry in Your presence.

When I have questions, remind me that I don't need to have every answer before I can trust You.

When I feel lonely, remind me that I am never alone.

When memories come rushing back, help me remember them with gratitude rather than only pain.

Lord, I don't ask You to make me forget.

Instead, help me learn how to carry the memories without allowing the grief to consume me.

Teach me that mourning and faith can exist together.

I can miss someone and still trust You.

I can cry and still worship You.

I can have a broken heart and still believe in Your promises.

Your Word reminds me that death does not have the final victory.

There is a day coming when there will be no more sickness, no more suffering, no more cancer, no more hospital rooms, no more tears, and no more goodbyes.

What a glorious day that will be.

Until then, Lord, walk with me through this valley.

Hold me when I don't have the strength to stand.

Comfort me when the memories hurt.

Give me peace when my mind cannot understand.

And when grief comes in waves, remind me that You are greater than every wave that tries to overwhelm me.

I may be walking through grief, but I am not walking through it alone.

You are beside me.

You are carrying me.

And even in the middle of my grief, I choose You.

I choose to trust You.

I choose to hold on to hope.

And I choose to believe that one day, in Your perfect timing, every tear will be wiped away and death will be no more.

Until that glorious morning, keep my heart close to Yours.

To everyone mourning a loss…
